Microsoft has released prices and packages for Office 2008 for Mac scheduled for release in January 2008.

- Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 Home and Student Edition - $149.95
- Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 Special Media Edition - $499.95
The pricing remains virtually the same as prices for Office 2004 for Mac. They are only 95 cents higher than the price of the comparable version of the current Office 2004 for Mac.
Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac: This is the core version of the productivity suite which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Entourage. This version includes some new Automator workflows, as well as Exchange support in Entourage.
For the first time, the Home and Student Edition is not a full featured product. It will not include exchange support and doesn't include the new Automator actions.
The Special Media Edition will include Expression Media —a digital asset management suite that will help media-crazed users import, annotate, organize, archive, search, and distribute their media files.. No word on if this is integrated with Office for Mac applications.

For our international readers.....Office 2008 for Mac will be available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish, and, new in this version Danish, Finnish and Norwegian.

A major selling point worth noting is that "Student and Teacher Edition" has been replaced with "Home and Student Edition"! That means anyone (except businesses) can buy Office 2008 for home for a much more affordable $150.00.
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why in holy hell would any moron pay perfectly good money for ANY version of this warmed-over pile of canine feces in 2007? What can it possibly do for you that other, modern, free or more economical apps can't?
If you just want to worship Microsoft for its "compatibility", go right ahead, but this is the most obscene pricing of any software product in a long time.
This post, of course, will never appear on a site permanently suckling on a Microsoft teat.
Major Flatus, our goal is to keep Entourage users informed. We are not here to bash nor adulate praises on Microsoft.
