If you are a Leopard user and Office for Mac 2008 has failed to install, try this workaround using a custom install.
"ISSUE: Installation fails when the OS is Leopard (10.5.x) and the language is set to some Far East Languages (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Tibetan)"
Workaround: Customer needs to do a custom install deselecting Norwegian Proofing tools.
- Launch the installer as normal
- When presented with the location to install to there is a button in the bottom left corner that allows the custom to choose a custom install – click it.
- Click the disclosure triangle at the top of the list (Microsoft Office 2008) to display the list of options.
- Click the disclosure triangle at the item entitled Proofing Tools to display the list of languages.
- Click on the proofing tool labeled “Norwegian” to deselect it
- Click on the install button on the bottom right corner to continue installing
Some users have found this alternative worked:
Set your system language to English and install everything (including the Norwegian proofing tools) and then go back to your preferred OS language.
Steps:
- Choose "Preferences..." from the "Apple" Menu.
- Click "International"
- In the Language tab, drag "English" to the top of the list.
- Restart
- Launch the Office Installer and proceed with installation.
- Repeat steps 1-2 and restore their previous top language back.
- Restart
