Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update

Finally, a combo updater for Office 2004. This update includes all the improvements that were released in previous Office 2004 updates. It comes in at a whopping .dmg file size of 59mb.

The Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update is also available from Microsoft AutoUpdate. AutoUpdate is a program that automatically keeps Microsoft software up to date. To use AutoUpdate, start an Office program, and then click Check for Updates on the Help menu.

Improvements that are included in the update:

The Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update contains several improvements to enhance stability and compatibility with documents that were created in Office 2008 for Mac and Office 2007 for Windows.

If the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac is installed, this update enables Office 2004 for Mac to read and write Office documents that are in the Open XML Format. There are no specific Entourage improvements added,

Description of the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update

The Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update includes this following improvement that will make updating a bit faster.

  • The update installer now ignores backup copies of Office that were created by Time Machine.
For users of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), this update fixes an issue that causes the update installer to identify copies of Office in backup folders that were created by Time Machine. Folders that were created by Time Machine use the folder name extension ".backupdb."

Tips for a good install:

  1. Log out/in with shift key down to disable all startup items. Make sure there are no applications open.
  2. Restart after installing and run Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.

Download the English Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update package now.

All updates can be found on Mactopia. Look for Newest in the right side column.

I also suggest you archive (zip) your Office for Mac folder prior to updating. If the update has problems, you can easily revert to the archived copy. It's too early to know if this update will cause problems.

Well I clicked yes on the auto updater to update to MS Office 11.5.0 before making an archive copy of my Office 2004. I'm running OS 10.4.11 on my G5 (no Leopard, no "intel" mac)

Since installing the 11.5.0 MS Office "upgrade" I'm having problems printing word documents: Not all of the text shows up.

I printed documents from other applications and also graphics with no problem and I've put the printer through the self test and maintenance measures -- all of those things print just fine. Only Word (which I use every day in my business) is giving me a problem.
(freekin' irritating!)

I wanna go back to the way it worked before the 11.5.0 MS Office upgrade.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

A quick test is to create a new User in System Preferences. Open Word and test print. If it works then you know it's a problem in your User's folder. If it does not, then run the latest Apple Combo updater. It will often fix odd problems like this.

To further diagnosis, I would ask on the Word newsgroup before you re-install. They might be able to help you with a fix.

How to subscribe to microsoft.public.mac.office.word

If you need to revert, use "Remove Office" then update. "Remove Office" is found in the Additional Tools folder in Office.

It might be difficult to find the older versions of Office 2004, you can try the links I've listed here.

PLEASE HELP!

I installed the update and now it says that an "error occurred" there is no such disk for entourage in 2004.

I just used it just before and have critical emails in there. Can I reinstall entourage and somehow get my old emails back in? Or what do I do?

I am in a HUGE panic right now. New to Mac and Entourage. PLEASE HELP.

An error occurred. There is no such disk.

A user has reported this error when Entourage 2004 was trying to launch. The problem was he was using an alias of the Documents folder. Entourage was unable to find the Microsoft User Data folder using an alias.

Note: It is suggested that if you want to move your Documents folder to a different volume that you use an symlink instead. there are several utilities like Cocktail that will create a symlink, or you can use the Terminal.

I'm a bit confused. It appears you are having problems updating AND you lost your emails. Can you be more specific?

Please look for a personal reply. Troubleshooting via comments is not the best forum.

I've tried downloading the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.5.0 Update multiple times from both Safari and Firefox. Both browsers come up with Safari can’t open the page “http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/8/c/88cb86c3-7f73-4c54-a3e6-ef46336ccd79/Office2004-1150UpdateEN.dmg” because it can’t find the server “download.microsoft.com”.

Basically, the servers don't appear to be available. I've alerted MS and ask that they send me the DMG file as a large attachment to site that can handle that size file, but they tell me the servers are working just fine and refuse to send me the DMG file. Frustrating beyond measure! Is anyone else having trouble getting the download?

When I click on the download button, it momentarily flashes a "beta" screen for an instant, and then comes up with the message above. Is there another place where I can download it as MS doesn't seem to want to listen, and doesn't much care?

I'm trying to solve some strange problems that I am having with the entire suit. Entourage says it can't load identity, and the other 3 apps say that they can't load the library framework. I'm hoping the update will take care of this stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

I've worked with Thomas off list to get his problem solved, but wanted to post here what was tried.

1) A framework error normally means one or more components of Office have not been updated correctly and are now out of synch with other bits. See fixes here: Framework Error
Note: Thomas's framework problem was fixed when he was actually able to update.

2) Unable to download:

Some service providers, Comcast seems to be the most problematic, are having a problem with the DNS servers. The fix is to go to the TCP/IP and enter a new server. You can try these:
68.87.64.196 then on the next line type 68.87.66.196. Click apply and go back to the Microsoft Mactopia download page and get the update.

Another user reported these worked for him: : 209.188.112.3 and 63.81.160.11.

In Thomas's case neither worked, but in the process of resetting and going back to the default it somehow "refreshed" and they are now working.

I have tried the fixes to the DSN server list suggested by Diane and they do not work. I am still trying to get the update with no success. Any help would be great.

What happens when you try to download from Mactopia? Have you applied the latest Apple combo to see if that will help?

Apple Combo Updater and Entourage

BTW, what version do you have installed now?

I am now running OS 10.4.11 and have not been able to use any of the components of office 2004 since I upgraded my Mac. I always get messages that the fonts are corrupt (they are not). I did the office updates to 11.5.2 (11.5.0 for Word), ran repair disk permissions and still, the same error messages are coming up. HELP!

Diane Ross Author Profile Page said:

If the OS upgrade caused problems, I would download the Apple combo and run it. It's possible you might need to do an "Archive & Install", but let's try some troubleshooting first.

Delete these files in ~/Library/Caches:
com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
tasmanbrowser.cache

If the above does not work, check for corrupt font caches. These can easily be cleared from the system with Font Finagler. Download and run the application. First click the "Inspect Font Cache Files" button, then the "Clean Font Cache Files" button. You must then restart your Mac. Other utilities that can clear your font caches are Cocktail, FontNuke and OnyX.

See these links to help troubleshoot font issues.

Spin Control

Troubleshoot Fonts

Let me know if any of these solutions work for you.

I am having the same problem as Thomas Schellenburg. I need to download the new version so I can open an Excel document. How do I change my TCP/IP address and on which line do I type the new numbers? Also, how come the update is not done when I auto-update my Office?

Diane Ross Author Profile Page said:

See if OpenDNS will help. Unable to download updates has directions.

are you using Office 2004 or 2008? If it's 2008 then you probably have not updated the Microsoft AutoUpdater. See links on this page.

i have been trying to install this update to my mac but it tells me it cant find the required software to install.

My system is:
OS X 10.4.11 (i think tiger but I can never remember what's what)
Office 10.5.3 (which is after 10.5.0 so I'm thinking it should work?)
Intel Mac Book

Cant think of anything else that would matter. Can anyone give me any ideas?

Diane Ross Author Profile Page said:

There is no 10.5.3 of Office. If you look in your Applications folder, what is the name of your Microsoft Office folder? I'm guessing it's Microsoft Office 2008. Can you open the Office folder inside this folder and tell me what version the Microsoft Component Plugin shows?

"/Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework"

Hi there,

I installed this update along side the OpenXMLConverter100.dmg update and had no issues on my Mac.

Now I work in a design studio that is on a network where all ID keys are individual. When applying the same updates to a second computer on the network I encountered a problem where the Office programs would not start due to licensing issues, saying that someone else on the network is using the same ID. I have checked all IDs on all computers and have found no two IDs the same.
Also, once all other computers are powered down the programs seem to work.

Any ideas on what has happened here and how to go about solving this issue??

Tony.

It's not easy to see which computer has the same registration.

If you look in the Application menu for the About item and display that, it will display the Product ID to you.

If you find two machines on which all but the last five digits match, the same key was used on those two machines.

It won't tell you "which" key was used, just that the "same" key was used.

Only trial and error will let you sort out which key belongs to which computer. You can change the licenses without removing and reinstalling however.

Easiest method: Launch the Remove Office tool and hold down Option at the first dialog, and the "remove office" option will change to "remove licensing information".

/Application/Microsoft Office 2008/Additional Tools/Remove Office

If you have the 3 systems connected, start one of the Office apps on the oldest of the bunch (IIRC the product keys are in a list so you probably used the top one on that system.). Then launch the same app on one of the other two. If there is a conflict modify the second one's product key. If not the 3rd one must be the odd man out - although you may still have to get 2 & 3 to bump heads in order to be certain.

Hi, I'm having the same problem as Trey.

I have been trying to install this update to my mac but it tells me it cant find the required software to install.

My system is:
OS X 10.5.7 (Lepord)
Office 2004
Microsoft Component Plugin Version 11.5.5

The link you posted in response to Trey's email (Solutions for the error you are describing) does not work for me.

Thanks for the help.

Just to be clear.... this article is for the 11.5.0 updater. Currently the newest updater is 11.5.5.

Your Microsoft Component Plugin is 11.5.5 so you are updated. Why do you think you are not fully updated?

If you are getting the MAU updater telling you to update, it could be finding anther copy of Office on one of your drives that needs updating.

I also get the message "could not find correct version of software" when trying to install 11.5.0 updater. I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Microsoft Office 2004 student/teacher edition. Very frustrating. I thought maybe it was because I didn't know my administrator password, but that has been changed and still won't install.

I am also getting the messsage "could not find correct version of software" when trying to install 11.5.0 updater. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Microsoft Office 2004 student/teacher edition. Further, my updater log shows installation of 11.5.5 as of June 21, 2009. I am at a loss for how to fix this.

Diane Ross Author Profile Page said:

If you have 11.5.5 then you already have 11.5.0. :-) There is the one combo updater for Office 2004 now. You don't need any incremental updaters.

I realize that it means that I have all the proper updates... :)

However, when I attempt to open a docx files, it won't open and I get a message that says I need to download the converter upgrade DESPITE the fact that I know I already have the most updated version.

I thought I would try to download the upgrades (again) since it clearly wasn't working properly, but that's when I get the error message that i mentioned.

I tried creating a new user account (as you've suggested in a few places) but that didn't work either. I do not want to buy the 2008 upgrade. I just want this one to work...

please HELP!

Get the Open XML Converter

It's a separate download.
