Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.9 Update

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.9 Update is now available on Mactopia downloads or via Microsoft AutoUpdater.

You must have Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.0 Update or later installed before you install the Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.9 Update. This is a combo updater including 12.1.7.

Along with the usual security updates, it mentions this update readies Office 2008 for Mac for the installation of Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition, and must be installed before Entourage 2008, Web Services Edition is installed. For more information about this update, please visit the Microsoft Web site.

Follow these steps for a successful upgrade:

  1. Zip your Office for Mac folder in Applications, or be sure you have a backup copy. Updaters do not have an uninstall feature.**
  2. Launch the Microsoft AutoUpdater (MAU) under Help in the Menu bar of any Office application.
  3. When the MAU shows up in the Dock, select "Keep in Dock"
  4. Log out of your User's account
  5. Log in and hold down the Shift key to disable all startup items.
  6. Launch the MAU from the Dock
  7. Select Check for updates
  8. Launch the installer and update.
  9. Restart
** Updates do not include an uninstall feature. To restore your application to its original state, delete it from your hard disk, reinstall Office from your original installation disk, and then install ALL updates. Tip: Archive (zip) your Office folder prior to updating so you can easily revert to the archive copy if needed. If you use Time Machine or other backup software, you can use the copy there if needed.

So where in the world is the EWS update for Entourage? I've been beta testing it, and we've been using the same Beta2 since January with no news or new updates seeded. Pretty lame...

Does this update fix the 15-month-old bug in Excel that prevents multiple page layouts in one workbook when using the native .xlsx format? Is the bug EVER going to be fixed?

Like the article said, we know knowing about when the EWS update will be released. We are not Microsoft.

I haven't seen any reports. Let's verify that you updated. Under About Entourage, do you see version 12.1.9?

Did you just install Safari 4? Did you restart after installing? Have you checked your keychain?
What error are you getting?

I have problems after I installed update 12.1.9 (verified). After the update I had to re-type all my passwords of my 4 email accounts and yet I haven’t succeeded to connect to hotmail. I tried even setting up a new hotmail account using account setup assistant but there was no success. I can verify that my password is correct and I can read my hotmail account e.g. using browser & http://home.live.com/

This is the error message I get from Entourage:
--------------------
Error
Mail Server setup error

Explanation
Windows Live Hotmail accounts now require passwords between 6 and 16 characters. Please go to www.Hotmail.com if your account needs to be updated.
--------------------

Since I purchased my first Mac in Dec 2008 I've been very disappointed to Mac/Office and this latest update strengthens that feeling, I'm sorry to say that.

Tx,

KR

How do you uninstall the EWS? After installing, it has changed MS Word and MS Excel for Mac. The menus are all messed up.

You have to remove Office and re-install. FWIW, this is not a problem other users are seeing. I suggest you ask on the Microsoft Office newsgroup to help troubleshoot your problem.
