When purchasing Office for Mac from eBay or any online site, please use caution. Make sure you get a sealed copy. Some users are selling product keys from the Home & Student version and sending you a copy of the Office installer DVD that they burned. This is illegal. They are also selling the key many times over and the keys are now blacklisted. You can no longer update Office for Mac 2008 using the blacklisted key.

what if office was purchased elsewhere, other than ebay? unfortunately, i can't find the email invoice any longer of where i purchased the software. if i find it, would they be of any help or am i sol? ugh! thanks in advance.
Are you having problems updating to 12.2.0? Did you try the fixes in the article Invalid Product Key after updating to SP2
eBay is not the only place illegal copies of Office are being sold, but probably one the most popular. Microsoft is working with eBay to stop this so people are protected from unscrupulous vendors.
